Stargazer Drop Bar Mountain Touring Bike
The Stargazer is an amazingly versatile drop bar mountain touring bike. It has an upright, comfortable riding position that inspires confidence, and the tire clearance and wide gear range to let you go anywhere, making it a great choice for off-road riding, from singletrack and dirt roads to fully loaded bikepacking trips. It’s designed to run both 27.5+ and 29” wheels.

Advanced Chromoly Tubeset
The heat-treated, multi-butted Chromoly steel tubeset delivers a strong, smooth-riding frame. Triple- and quad-butted oversized tubing, with internal gussets at the head tube, adds strength where it matters most without unnecessary weight. A lively ride even when loaded.
The Stargazer is our award-winning drop bar mountain touring bike designed for loaded off-road riding. It's at home on trails, singletrack, and gravel roads whether unladen or with racks and bags on an adventure. The Stargazer is a direct descendant of Tumbleweed’s first bike model, the Prospector, and shares much of the same tubing and mountain bike geometry, with a shorter reach to accommodate drop handlebars, and a lighter weight overall package.
Standout specs:
- Rigid-specific frame geometry
- Triple- and quad-butted heat-treated Chromoly frame tubing
- Boost axle spacing and tire clearance up to 29x2.6”
- Built for wide range 1x drivetrains
- Reach optimized for wide drop bars
Our standard build combines a 12-speed SRAM Eagle wide range 10-52 tooth cassette and derailleur with SRAM Rival road shifters via a Ratio Technology 1x12 Wide Upgrade Kit. The left shifter is modified to control the actuation of the dropper seatpost.
The Stargazer is built for:
- Riders who need to cover a wide range of terrain, from trails to singletrack and gravel
- Riders who need a versatile model that’s optimized for bikepacking and loaded off-road touring that can swap 27.5+ and 29” wheels
- Riders who prefer drop bars

FAQs
Always feel free to reach out to us with any questions not answered here or on our full FAQs page.
A company called Ratio Technologies produces a kit that converts SRAM 11 speed road shifters to work seamlessly with 12 speed mountain derailleurs. We use their kit on our complete builds.
The Stargazer is optimized for drop bars. While you can use flat bars on a Stargazer, you'll need to take into account that the frame has a reach that is optimized for drop bars and you'll likely need a long stem. If you prefer flat bars, we recommend our Sunliner or Prospector models.
For the rear brake, if you want to run 160mm rotors, mount the caliper directly to the brake mount. Use the 160mm rear brake adaptor to run 180mm rotors. For the front brake, use the 140mm setting on your adaptor for 160mm rotors, and the 160mm setting for 180mm rotors.
We have made some small evolutionary updates to the Stargazer for Gen 2. These include two new colors, a "Light Brick" red and "Steel Blue" which is a greenish blue, a 10mm longer effective top tube length across all sizes, a 31.6mm seatpost diameter and a UDH dropout. Our complete build does not utilize a T type drivetrain, the UDH is simply for wider availability of spare hangers. Our previous generation of derailleur hangers will remain available and are still an excellent design.
Tumbleweed bikes don’t arrive assembled. We recommend having your bike reassembled by a professional mechanic at a reputable bike shop. It will be very straightforward for a shop to assemble.
We build complete bikes in the order that the build specs are finalized. Our standard build with the parts list as shown is $4,000 USD. We use this as a starting point for your build, and since we custom assemble each bike from the frame up, including hand-building all of our wheels, there is a wide range of changes you can make to our standard spec.
Once you place your order, we put your name on the frame/fork and reach out to start confirming the final spec for your bike. Once we have finalized the build spec, we send over an invoice for the final balance due if there are any upgrades from the standard spec.
Once the final invoice is paid, your build sheet goes into our build queue, and we begin ordering any necessary parts for your bike. Our goal is to have your bike completed and ready to ship within 4-6 weeks from the time you pay your final invoice. However, there can sometimes be unforeseen delays if a component is out of stock from the manufacturer, etc.
We build your wheels, completely assemble your bike, test ride it multiple times, and double-check all adjustments before packing it for shipment. When you receive your bike, we recommend taking it to a professional mechanic for reassembly. It will be very straightforward for a shop to assemble.
